Anxiety

Anxiety has many faces. There are specific fears, called phobias, like a fear of heights, of open spaces, of closed spaces, of snakes, etc. There are specific, direct methods to deal with these sorts of fears.

There is social anxiety, a fear of social situations in which you are quite uncomfortable around others and sometimes avoid parties and meetings altogether.  This anxiety is usually shame-based and has a lot to do with how others see you. Both of these issues need to be addressed.

There is also worry.  Now we all worry a bit. But worry can be excessive if it occurs a great deal of the time and extends to rather small things. Unfortunately, it is easy to get used to worrying a lot. Excessive worry is based on catastrophic thoughts, which are just below the level of awareness.  These thoughts can be accessed and worked with directly by by checking how they occur in your daily life.
